Halloween Spooktacular!

Piano Recital
at "haunted" Sunshine Villa
on
Saturday, October 22nd,
10:30 a.m.

Did you know...That ...
"...the Sunshine Villa was previously the old McCray Hotel and its dark past holds plenty of history within its walls and surroundings. Legends say that before the classic Victorian was built on the property in the 1860s, the Ohlone Indians performed rituals there and utilized it as sacred Indian burial grounds." (read more about it in Aubrey Graves's book "Supernatural Santa Cruz")

Ode to St. Cecilia

St. Cecilia’s biography is shrouded in mystery, and the supposed events leading to her sainthood are more fantasy than fact. Nonetheless, she has been revered for centuries as the patron saint of musicians, and countless compositions have been composed in her honour. The Santa Cruz Chorale will present two of Henry Purcell’s compositions dedicated to St. Cecilia: “Welcome to all the Pleasures: Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day 1683,” and “Te Deum and Jubilate: for St. Cecilia’s Day 1694”. Purcell’s compositions will stand in contrast to the 20th century “Hymn to St. Cecilia” (Op. 27) by Benjamin Britten—who himself was born on St. Cecilia’s day.
